Yankeetown is a river town, built around a working waterfront that gives residents and visitors deep-water access to unparalleled fishing in the Gulf of Mexico and the quiet beauty of the Withlacoochee River. Izaak Walton Investors has committed to honoring and preserving the heritage of this rare piece of Old Florida as it redevelops aging structures on the waterfront and revives Yankeetown as a destination for visitors.
After being destroyed by fire and reconstructed as an imperfect copy, the Izaak Walton Restaurant is being renovated to its former position as the heart and soul of the Yankeetown community. Unfortunately, the previous owners were prevented from reconstructing the lodging rooms because of wastewater treatment limitations. Izaak Walton Investors plan to construct a sewage treatment plant that will meet this need and improve water quality in the river at the same time.
To preserve the natural look and feel of Yankeetown, the renovation of the restaurant and the subsequent construction will employ local materials, craftsmen and artisans to create authentic cracker style architecture, furniture and accessories to maintain the character that makes Yankeetown a unique place. With this investment, the restaurant and lodge will again become a destination for Florida residents and the seasonal visitors who come to boat, fish, vacation, shop and relax along the serene river.
Yankeetown will never become a concrete jungle like so many overdeveloped areas on Floridas coast. By concentrating sensitive development in existing commercial areas of the riverfront, Yankeetown can be assured that it will never have to give up its unique heritage and quiet way of life.
